History of Hope and Rehabilitation Organization Yaounde-Cameroon (HaRO)

Founded in November 2016 by Dr. Kwa Fritz Mendi in Yaounde, Cameroon, Hope and Rehabilitation Organization (HaRO) emerged as a beacon of hope for vulnerable populations. Dr. Mendi, driven by a deep passion for social justice and community empowerment, recognized the urgent need for a comprehensive support system targeting marginalized groups. From its inception, HaRO set out to create sustainable solutions, offering assistance to those most affected by socio-economic challenges, including women, children, persons with disabilities, Indigenous people, internally displaced persons, and individuals living with HIV and AIDS.

HaRO’s vision is clear: to become the mainstream provider of sustainable solutions to problems impacting vulnerable groups across Cameroon by 2035. To achieve this, the organization has designed and implemented numerous programs focusing on human rights advocacy, education, healthcare, and community development. These programs have not only empowered individuals but also built resilience within communities, creating a foundation for long-term transformation.

Accomplishments

Since its founding, HaRO has made remarkable strides in improving the lives of countless individuals and communities in Cameroon:

  1. Empowering Women and Girls: HaRO has launched initiatives that provide vocational training and educational support to women and girls, equipping them with skills for economic independence and leadership. These efforts have resulted in increased literacy rates and income-generating opportunities, transforming lives and fostering equality.
  2. Support for Persons with Disabilities: Recognizing the challenges faced by persons with disabilities, HaRO has established inclusive programs that offer healthcare services, rehabilitation, and job training. These programs aim to promote dignity and self-sufficiency, enabling individuals to actively participate in society.
  3. Assistance for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs): In response to the growing crisis of displacement in Cameroon, HaRO has provided emergency relief and long-term support for internally displaced persons. Through shelter, food assistance, and trauma counseling, the organization has helped families rebuild their lives and find new opportunities for stability.
  4. Advocacy and Support for Persons Living with HIV/AIDS: HaRO has been at the forefront of HIV/AIDS awareness and support initiatives, offering education, healthcare services, and psychological support to affected individuals. These efforts have reduced stigma and improved access to critical resources for those living with the disease.
  5. Promoting the Rights of Indigenous People: Committed to protecting the rights of Indigenous communities, HaRO has launched advocacy campaigns and development projects aimed at preserving cultural heritage while ensuring access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunities.

Through these accomplishments, HaRO has become a trusted partner in community development and human rights advocacy, making significant progress toward its vision of a more equitable and resilient Cameroon. As HaRO continues its mission, it remains dedicated to expanding its impact, offering hope and rehabilitation to those who need it most.
