Accomplishments of HaRO (What we have done)

Hope and Rehabilitation Organization Yaounde-Cameroon (HaRO) has made significant strides in its mission to empower vulnerable populations and improve their quality of life. Through targeted programs and initiatives, HaRO addresses the multifaceted challenges faced by internally displaced persons (IDPs), single mothers, and other marginalized groups in Cameroon. By focusing on health, education, economic empowerment, and community support, HaRO has transformed the lives of countless individuals, fostering resilience and creating pathways to a brighter future. Here are some of the notable accomplishments that reflect HaRO’s commitment to service and advocacy:

1. Identification and Registration Campaign of IDPs

  • HaRO conducted a comprehensive identification and registration campaign for internally displaced persons (IDPs) to ensure that those affected by conflict and crises are recognized and supported. This initiative allowed HaRO to assess the needs of IDPs accurately and tailor programs to address their specific challenges, providing a foundation for ongoing support and assistance.

2. Trauma Healing Sessions for Adult IDPs

  • Understanding the psychological toll of displacement, HaRO facilitated trauma healing sessions for adult IDPs. These sessions offered a safe space for participants to share their experiences, receive emotional support, and learn coping strategies. Through guided discussions and therapeutic activities, adults were empowered to process their trauma, fostering resilience and facilitating their journey toward recovery.

3. Trauma Healing Sessions for IDP Children

  • Recognizing that children are particularly vulnerable to the effects of trauma, HaRO organized specialized trauma healing sessions for IDP children. These sessions incorporated play therapy, art activities, and group discussions, helping children express their feelings and experiences in a supportive environment. By addressing their emotional needs, HaRO aimed to restore a sense of safety and normalcy for these young individuals.

4. Training in Basic French

  • To enhance communication and integration within their communities, HaRO provided training in basic French for IDPs. This initiative aimed to improve language skills, enabling participants to access services, engage in education, and connect with their neighbors. By empowering individuals with language proficiency, HaRO helps break down barriers and fosters social inclusion.

5. Distribution of School Kits

  • To support the education of displaced children, HaRO distributed school kits containing essential supplies such as notebooks, pens, and textbooks. This initiative not only alleviated the financial burden on families but also motivated children to continue their education despite challenging circumstances, ensuring they have the tools necessary for learning.

6. Payment of School Tuition

  • HaRO has prioritized education by covering school tuition fees for IDP children. This financial support ensures that children can attend school without the worry of unaffordable costs, enabling them to pursue their studies and secure a brighter future.

7. Payment of Exam Fees

  • Understanding the importance of educational milestones, HaRO also assists with the payment of exam fees for IDP students. By removing this financial barrier, HaRO encourages academic achievement and helps students focus on their studies, ultimately paving the way for greater opportunities.

8. Training Sessions for Single Mothers on Malnutrition

  • HaRO has organized training sessions focused on malnutrition awareness for single mothers, particularly those among IDPs. These sessions educate mothers on nutrition, dietary needs, and healthy meal preparation, empowering them to make informed decisions about their families’ health and well-being.

9. Empowering Single IDP Mothers to Fight Against Malnutrition

  • Through targeted programs, HaRO empowers single IDP mothers to combat malnutrition by providing resources and support. This includes nutrition education, access to healthy food options, and community support networks, fostering an environment where mothers can better care for their children and enhance their families’ nutritional status.

10. Medical Consultation and Drug Administration to Single and Teen IDP Mothers

  • HaRO offers medical consultations and drug administration for single and teenage IDP mothers, addressing their unique health needs. By providing essential healthcare services, HaRO ensures that these mothers receive timely medical attention, promoting their overall health and well-being.

11. Material and Food Donation to IDPs

  • In response to immediate needs, HaRO has organized material and food donations for IDPs. These contributions help alleviate hunger and provide essential supplies for daily living, offering a lifeline to families facing dire circumstances.

12. Training on Economic Empowerment and Entrepreneurship

  • HaRO recognizes the importance of financial independence, offering training on economic empowerment and entrepreneurship. These workshops equip participants with skills to start and manage their own businesses, fostering self-sufficiency and creating pathways for economic stability.

13. Financial Empowerment

  • Through financial literacy programs, HaRO empowers individuals with the knowledge to manage their finances effectively. Participants learn budgeting, savings strategies, and investment principles, enabling them to make informed financial decisions and improve their economic circumstances.

14. Food Support to Individual IDPs

  • HaRO provides food support to individual IDPs, ensuring that families have access to essential nutrition. This initiative addresses food insecurity and helps families meet their basic needs, contributing to their overall health and well-being.
